West Coast Self-Storage has proposed a new facility for 3310 Harbor S.W. in the Alki Point neighborhood of Seattle, on a property that currently houses a warehouse and vacated vehicle-towing lot. The four-story building would be about 45 feet tall with approximately 20 indoor parking spaces, according to the source.
The location would also include a manager’s office, with customer access between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. Video cameras would provide extra security.
The facility would require public-access restrictions on what would become 29th Avenue S.W. West Coast is still compiling documentation for that portion of the project. Although formal hearings aren’t expected to begin until the fall, the Alki Community Council recently provided early feedback on the proposal, the source reported.
Concerns raised during the meeting included the potential impact of increased traffic on the route to and from the beach during spring and summer as well as possible congestion on the sidewalk that could impede cyclists using the bike trail in front of the property. There was also a discussion about whether the target site could eventually be zoned for residential use, but West Coast officials argued the proximity of nearby railroad traffic would make the location less than ideal for residents, according to the source.
West Coast Self-Storage is a real estate acquisition, development and management company headquartered in Mill Creek, Wash. It owns or manages 31 self-storage properties in California, Oregon and Washington.
