Valet Self-Storage Operator MakeSpace Launches ‘Seasonal Closet’ Service
March 12, 2020
MakeSpace Labs Inc., a business specializing in valet-style self-storage services in 24 markets across Canada and the United States, has launched a lighter version of its pickup and delivery service. “Seasonal Closet” will allow customers to store off-season items and have them re-delivered twice per year at a fixed price of $29 per month, according to a press release.
“With Seasonal Closet, we’re excited to offer an even more affordable option for customers who need just a little extra space as the seasons change,” said CEO Rahul Gandhi.
The new service comes on the heels of a survey MakeSpace conducted last month of 1,000 New York adults. Of respondents, 59 percent said they had regretted throwing away items because they didn’t have enough storage space. About 70 percent indicated they’d be willing to pay up to $50 more in monthly rent for an extra closet in their apartment. Many would give up existing space in their residences for more space, with 62 percent willing to trade their dining room for more closet space, the release stated.
Some of the non-traditional spaces consumers use to tuck away items in their homes include the oven (10.2 percent) and their car (19.7 percent).
The launch of Seasonal Closet coincides with the rollout of a MakeSpace national ad campaign, which encourages consumers to embrace “optimalism” in finding a perfect balance of space and belongings.
Founded in 2013 and based in New York, MakeSpace offers door-to-door service for customers’ stored goods and creates a visual catalog of each box stored in its warehouse. Customers have access to the catalog through a cloud-based platform and mobile app, which allows them to keep track of their items and request them when desired.
