Self-Storage Moratorium Considered in Wildomar, CASelf-Storage Moratorium Considered in Wildomar, CA

Officials in Wildomar, Calif., may ban development of any new self-storage facilities until the city can create stricter rules about where they can be built. Tomorrow the Wildomar Planning Commission will discuss the possibility of a two-year moratorium on self-storage, which would include boat- and trailer-storage businesses.
 
The city’s current zoning ordinance allows self-storage to be built on almost all commercially and industrially zoned land, of which there is approximately 250 acres within the town’s limits. With three self-storage proposals on the table, officials are concerned that self-storage businesses, which do not generate sales-tax revenue, will take valuable land away from those that do.
 
Officials have the option to permanently ban self-storage, but the city's planning staff is not recommending it.
