A body found last Friday in a self-storage unit in Lewiston, Maine, could be that of a woman whos been missing for nearly 30 years.

The body was discovered inside an unplugged freezer in a self-storage unit at Moore Self Storage. Police believe the body could be Kitty I. Wardwell, who was reported missing in July of 1983. The last person she was seen with was her former boyfriend, Frank Julian. The storage unit had been rented to Julian, who died Oct. 1 at age 80, since 1992.

Members of Julians family were cleaning out the storage unit when they discovered the remains. Investigators found evidence at the scene that led them to believe the body might be Wardwells. Police didnt comment on the condition of the body, which was moved while still inside the freezer to the medical examiners office. An autopsy report is pending.

Wardwell is listed on the Maine State Polices missing persons website. She was first reported missing by a friend. She was 29 at the time of her disappearance. Julian told investigators in 1983 that he had left Wardwell at a motel after the couple had a fight. At the time, police believed Wardwell may have been the victim of foul play.
