One of the best aspects of working for my company is the abundance of training available. We can enhance our existing skills or learn new ones through a variety of platforms. In addition, the company rolls out new opportunities all year long, so there’s always something to explore. This is especially critical as the business world evolves. Of course, there’s much to learn about emerging technology, but it doesn’t end there. There are changes in how we market our services and products, and how we communicate with each other, whether it’s coworkers, supervisors or customers. Even our work environments have altered. There’s simply a lot to learn and it can sometimes feel overwhelming, so having support is vital.

The self-storage industry has been moving at a dizzying pace the last few years, too. We’re experiencing a development boom and industry consolidation. There are countless perspectives on what it means to provide the ultimate customer experience. Then there’s all the technology, including artificial intelligence and how to harness data to improve operations. It’s no wonder you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed yourself! So, how do you get a handle on all that’s happening in our dynamic industry? You seek knowledge and I know just the place—the Inside Self-Storage Roadshow.

The single-day, dual-track event, Nov. 29 in Dallas, will satisfy your craving for up-to-date industry education. You can choose from the full-day Development Workshop or an eight-hour Legal and Operations Workshop. Both will be led by experts and long-time industry veterans.

The Development Workshop will be presented by Jamie Lindau and Jeff Bouchard of Trachte Building Systems. If you’re new to self-storage building or haven’t constructed a new site recently, this is a must-attend event. You’ll learn about all the nuances of development, from zoning to site design to how to form an awesome team. Plus, they’ll share national statistics and trends, and provide insight on conversions and multi-story structures.

If your operation is already up and running, then the Legal and Operations Workshop is for you. Split into two four-hour blocks, it kicks off with operations, followed by legal. Rick Beal and Magen Smith, cofounders of Atomic Storage Group, will discuss all things related to operating a successful self-storage property. They’ll dive into a variety of topics such as how to create a training program, hiring and employee compensation, setting up operational systems, how to perform audits, business metrics you should be tracking, marketing, and much more.

Then, Jeffrey Greenberger, a partner with Greenberger & Brewer LLP, will delve into the most pressing legal issues self-storage operators are facing today. Get clear advice on how to protect your business from the plethora of legal calamities that can threaten your facility. Jeff will discuss how to write a solid rental agreement, what to do when tenants don’t pay or abandon their units, and legal concerns around vehicle storage.

The ISS Roadshow will also feature 10 of the industry’s top vendors so you can learn more about their products and services or make a connection with them face-to-face. All this action will be hosted at The Irving Convention Center, which is just an eight-minute drive from Dallas Fort Worth International airport. If you’re looking to stay overnight, ISS has arranged a special rate for Roadshow attendees at the Texican Court near the convention center.

In addition to our first-ever ISS Roadshow, the team is working diligently on the 2024 Inside Self-Storage World Expo, which will return to Caesars Forum Conference Center, April 2-5. More information will be rolled out in the next few months on our website. You’ll soon be able to learn about upcoming workshops, educations sessions, all the speakers lined up for next year’s show, networking events, and more. The 2023 show garnered ISS its biggest attendance in history, so you don’t want to miss it next year! In the meantime, we hope you’ll join us for the ISS Roadshow.
