Over the past few weeks, the ISS Team has been recording the seminars for the upcoming ISS Virtual Event, Sept. 29-30. During my recordings, I had time to chat with the presenter for a moment before and after. It was refreshing to talk with these amazing individuals in a one-on-one setting. While I knew some of them from my pool of ISS writers, it was my first interaction with others. Of course, we discussed COVID-19 and how it’s affected our personal and professional lives, plus lamented about the loss of the live ISS World Expo while expressing enthusiasm for the free virtual event. Everyone agreed it was smart and necessary to move to a virtual format. In addition, it’s a critical time in our industry, and self-storage professionals need guidance.

While there’s much chatter about a vaccine for the coronavirus, we can’t bank on it just yet. Until you’re standing in line to get this anticipated inoculation, you still need to take precautions to safeguard your business, staff and customers. How? By being informed. And that’s why you should register right now for the ISS Virtual Event. It’s free, so why wouldn’t you? Don’t worry. There’s no need to block out 12 hours across the two days to get the most of the event. The recorded sessions will be available on demand for the duration of the event. This means you control what and when.

Let me tell you, the agenda is outstanding. Having recorded several of the sessions, I know firsthand what you can expect. These are caliber presentations brimming with strategies and ideas you can implement today to improve and grow your business, whether you’re a storage owner, manager, developer or investor. While I’m not going to go into detail on every aspect of the event as you can view the agenda and session details on our website, I’d like to offer a few highlights on the live and recorded happenings for which I’m excited.

Keynote by RK Kliebenstein. RK has been an industry leader for a long time. He has knowledge on every aspect of self-storage, from development to ownership, and marketing to day-to-day operations. When COVID-19 first began last spring, RK presented an article to me that examined how the virus would impact every facet of the industry. He knows his stuff! The keynote, “Self-Storage in a Time of Pandemic: Industry Impact and Survival Strategies,” will explore the industry’s resilience at this time while offering advice on how to adapt and thrive in our new world.

Sessions. They’re as varied as what you’d find at a live show. Essentially, there’s something for everyone. We’re hitting important industry topics with presentations on building, customer experience, innovation, investing, leadership and operations. Plus, we’ve sprinkled in some extras you won’t want to miss, including an expert panel discussion, “Self-Storage in a Post-COVID World,” and several live Q&As with industry experts on a broad range of topics.

Exhibits. The exhibit hall at the live show is a showstopper. It’s big, it’s loud and it’s busy! Even though you won’t be standing in a booth with our many wonderful suppliers and vendors this year, you can still log some facetime with them via the virtual platform. Representatives from nearly two dozen companies will be on hand during event hours. Some will also have videos available to view in their booth or company info you can download. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about these fine companies.

Networking. This is the best part! We’ve all been cooped up for six months! It’s time to interact on a grand scale. You’ll be able to connect with your peers and our experts to ask questions or share advice. We’ll also have several scheduled chats on specific topics including COVID-19, online rentals, security, legal issues and more. The ISS Team, including yours truly, will also be on hand for one-on-one interactions.

Of course, there’s so much more to the ISS Virtual Event than what I can expound on in just one blog. Your best course of action is to read about all the sessions, exhibit hall, networking and other opportunities that’ll be available during the free event. I’m sure you’ll find registering is a very smart move.
