Self-Storage Fiction Reads to Help You Escape the Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer are well upon us, and let’s face it: Many of us could use a little escape right now. If the coronavirus has thwarted your vacation plans, let your imagination transport you! Grab an icy beverage, find a shady spot and enjoy a riveting self-storage read. Whether you fancy mystery thrills or horror-level chills, we’ve got you covered.

In “Hot Storage,” author Mary Mead weaves a tale around self-storage manager Marlena Montoya, who finds cartons of drugs in a unit that was supposed to be empty. It all goes downhill from there, as a county task force puts an undercover cop on the payroll, one of the facility owners gets personal, and the local detective stays for dinner. When two men are murdered and the victims are tied to the Jade Beach storage facility, it falls to Montoya to hunt for the truth with an assist from Monarch Beach detective John Kincaid.

Best known for penning the official “The Walking Dead” novel series, author Jay Bonansinga digs deep to spin a chilling tale in his horror novel “Self Storage.” The psychological thriller centers on Johnny Fitzgerald, a lonely, divorced graphic illustrator with a major heroin habit. When Johnny accidentally gets trapped inside a deserted self-storage facility with his 6-year-old son, he’s forced to face demons both real and imagined.
