Arrest Made in Case of 2 Bodies Found in Brighton, MA, Self-Storage Unit

Police have arrested a man in connection with two bodies that were found inside a Brighton, Massachusetts, self-storage unit on Friday, April 14. The defendant rented the space at iStorage under one of the victim’s names, according to sources.

Investigators discovered the bodies of married couple Kiryl Schukin, 37, and Pavel Vekshin, 28, inside rubber storage bins at 145 N. Beacon St. Both men had been stabbed to death, and Schukin was also dismembered. Police also found bleach, rubber gloves and items belonging to the victims inside the unit.

The men were reported missing on April 9, but no one had heard from them since March 30, the sources reported. It’s unclear where and when they were killed, or when they were transported to the storage facility.

Leonid Volkov, 37, has been charged with murder. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues, sources reported. He’ll be arraigned today.

Schukin was a co-signer on an apartment Volkov rented in Medford, Massachusetts. When Schukin declined to extend the agreement, Volkov was evicted. Investigators claim the two men met on March 29 to rent a U-Haul truck, and Volkov drove the vehicle. Volkov moved items from an apartment on Locust Street rented by Schukin and Vekshin to the storage facility, where the rental truck was later found. Volkov was also captured on video entering and leaving the victims’ apartment building after the last time they’d been seen alive, the sources reported.

Schukin was a cybersecurity expert for a software-engineering firm EPAM Systems. Vekshin, a native of St. Petersburg, Russia, was a photographer who specialized in interior and architectural images.
