Self Storage Association Cancels Annual Spring Conference Due to Coronavirus

The Self Storage Association (SSA) last week canceled its spring conference and tradeshow scheduled for March 17-19 in San Antonio due to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, known as COVID-19. The move was made by the SSA Board of Directors and staff “in consideration for the health and safety of all participants,” according to a statement by Timothy J. Dietz, association president.

“As you might imagine, our top priority will always be the well-being of all those associated with SSA activities,” Dietz wrote. “Unforeseen consequences that could unduly jeopardize the productivity of our member companies is also a determining factor.”

The association will issue full refunds for registration and exhibitor fees or apply a credit toward its fall event in Las Vegas. Registrants will receive an e-mail with instructions on how to claim their preferred method of restitution, the statement said.

“Our entire board and team are disappointed that we will not be in San Antonio this month, a great town with much to offer,” Dietz said.

As of March 4, there were 94,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 globally including more than 3,000 deaths. U.S. cases totaled 129.
