South Africa Self-Storage Operator U Can Store Supports Local Charities

U Can Store, which operates five self-storage facilities in Johannesburg, South Africa, is supporting two local nonprofits with free storage and food donations. The contributions are part of the company’s new social-responsibility initiative, which was announced last month during the opening of its new location in Benoni, according to the source.

U Can is providing a storage unit at each of its five branches to Little Eden Society, which cares for people with intellectual disabilities. The space will serve as a collection point for donations, which are sold at the organization’s retail store.

“We have provided various bins for separate-at-source goods such as clothing, appliances, books, electronics, non-perishable foods and toiletries,” said U Can co-owner Nick Teixeira. “Receipt and storage of these items will be managed by each branch, and collection from the branches will be managed by Little Eden.”

In addition, U Can will offer weekly food supplies to Lady of Fatima Old Age Home in Benoni. “The reason we are all here today is because of the people that reside in that home or one similar to it,” Teixeira said. “We must all be mindful that one day we, too, will become old. We should, therefore, be grateful for what the elderly have done for us and give back to them.”

U Can offers business, personal and vehicle storage in Alberton, Benoni, Edenvale and Sandton.
