Officials in McDonough, Georgia, are considering whether to allow self-storage developments into its C-3 commercial zoning district. The city council is scheduled to discuss a code amendment on Nov. 20 that would require projects in the area to receive a conditional-use permit. It would also limit approvals to multi-story projects with interior storage units only, according to the source.

Self-storage is currently a permitted use in the city’s industrial zones, but C-3 carries a “highway commercial” designation. It has the broadest range of uses, with businesses commonly found along major roadways, the source reported.

Approval of the amendment would bring the city’s self-storage zoning in line with Henry County.
