Town officials in Fishkill, New York, have enacted a 12-month moratorium on self-storage development after being flooded with proposals. The city plans to use the time to assess the town’s zoning and determine proper regulations for new facilities, according to the source.

The board voted on the measure following concerns from residents about overdevelopment. “It’s about keeping up the comprehensive plan and the overall curb appeal of Fishkill,” said councilperson Carmine Istvan. “We’re having this influx of applications for self-storage, and we need to see how we can curb that and slow it down to preserve the appearance of our town like the comprehensive plan directs us to do.”
