SpareFoot, an online marketplace for self-storage consumers, has hired 20 employees and plans to hire 80 more this year at its headquarters in Austin, Texas. The staff expansion is being fueled by the company’s rapid growth, according to “The SpareFoot Blog.”

Most of the hiring will be completed during the first half of 2015, said Cathy Guthrie, head of the company’s People Department. By year’s end, SpareFoot will employ about 280 people, she said.

“We are looking for dynamic, ambitious people who appreciate and match our unbridled enthusiasm for SpareFoot’s current and future business plans,” said recruiter Katie Smith. “Our hiring process aims to test skillset and workplace-culture fit. For us, a candidate must possess both to be hired.”

The bulk of new hires will be for the company’s Development Team and Amazing Customer Experience (ACE) Team, according to Guthrie. Development Team members work on improving SpareFoot’s websites and creating internal Web-based apps. ACE members handle self-storage inquiries via phone, e-mail and Web chat, helping customers determine what size storage space they need and rent moving rucks. They also book and manage storage reservations.

Additional job opportunities this year include positions on SpareFoot’s analytics, client-relations, culinary, information-technology, lead-development and product teams, Guthrie said.

“We are looking for really smart and hard-working people with a sense of humor,” she said. “We want to surround ourselves with those who love to drive progress, are collaborative, and actually get amazingly positive energy from the fast-paced environment we work in.”

Company benefits include a 401(k) plan, dog-friendly workplace, flexible time off, and free chef-prepared lunches, disability insurance, and employee and family health-care coverage.

SpareFoot has been recognized as among the best workplaces in the Austin area by the “Austin Business Journal” and the “Austin American-Statesman,” according to the blog. A complete list of the company’s job openings is available on its website.

Founded in 2008, SpareFoot.com helps consumers find and reserve self-storage units, with comparison shopping tools that show real-time availability and exclusive deals. Since its launch, the company has raised $26 million in venture capital. With a network of more than 7,000 storage facilities ranging from mom-and-pop operations to real estate investment trusts, the company reaches prospective storage renters though partnerships with brands including SelfStorage.com and Penske Truck Rental.
