The Lock Up Self Storage has proposed a 99,900-square-foot storage development in the Warehouse District of Minneapolis. The property at 701 N. Seventh St. is in an area known as the North Loop, which has become a trendy spot for lofts, restaurants and retail boutiques. The storage company has reportedly chosen the neighborhood, which is about three blocks from Target Field, because of its high visibility and traffic volume.
City officials are awaiting a formal application but have already voiced concerns about the facility’s design, objecting to a shortage of windows and “blocky design,” according to the source. Industrial developments proposed for the North Loop are likely to receive resistance from city officials due to the region’s transformation from a warehouse district to a thriving residential and commercial corridor, the source reported.
The Lock Up Self Storage is the operating brand of family-owned Lock Up Development Group, an affiliate of BRB Development LLC, which has offered self-storage services since 1976. The company currently operates self-storage facilities in eight states and has five locations in the Twin Cities. It owns and manages more than 1.6 million square feet of self-storage.
