StorageTrader Investment Platform Launches for the Self-Storage Industry
March 14, 2024
StorageTrader, a marketplace designed for the self-storage industry, has launched a platform to connect facility owners with potential investors. Owners will have a direct line to accredited investors to help finance their acquisitions, expansions and upgrades, while investors have access to a vetted selection of investment opportunities, according to a press release.
“Self-storage has proven itself as an incredibly stable and profitable asset class, yet many potential investors have been sidelined due to lack of access,” said Melissa Kempkes, cofounder and CEO. “Our platform not only opens the door to these opportunities but does so in a way that's straightforward and transparent.”
All offerings submitted for consideration are put through a 30-step due-diligence process performed by the company’s team of investment professionals. Only those that pass are listed on the platform. Investors can browse the opportunities and choose those that are in line with their personal objectives. Investments minimums are as low as $10,000.
After verifying their identity and accredited status, investors sign their documents and fund their investment through StorageTrader. The capital is held in escrow until the minimum raise has been met; then the company sends the money directly to the deal sponsor. Ongoing reporting, distributions and updates are provided to them through the platform. At maturity, investors receive the agreed upon repayment, facilitated by StorageTrader.
“We're not just a platform; we're a community of investors and owners who believe in the power and potential of the self-storage market,” said Alese Johnston, cofounder and president. “Our first offering going live this week is just the beginning. We're committed to making investing in self-storage as easy as shopping online.”
StorageTrader is a finance-technology marketplace designed exclusively for the self-storage industry. Kempkes is also executive director of Ark Angel Alliance, a member-driven marketplace that links investors to early-stage ventures. Johnston is principal of Green Dragon Investments, which acquires, develops and manages self-storage facilities. She serves on Ark Angel’s board of directors.
