StorageDefender Inc., a provider of unit-monitoring technology for self-storage, has integrated its products with technology firm Self Storage Manager Inc. (SSM) and SteelBlue Building Components LLC, a manufacturer of roll-up doors and hallway systems.

The integration with SSM property-management software will add real-time, unit-monitoring capability—focused on motion and water detection as well as changes to temperature and humidity—alongside SSM software features, including contactless move-ins, automated workflows and data reporting, according to a press release.

“Our commitment has always been to offer innovative, smart, tech solutions that deliver more profit to our self-storage partners that are the easiest to implement and maintain,” said Mark Cieri, CEO of StorageDefender. “By integrating our smart-unit monitoring technology with SSM, we’re improving both facility operations and the tenant experience as a whole.”

“Our goal has always been to simplify self-storage management for our clients, whether it’s for in-store operations or remote management,” said Rohan Shenoy, president of SSM. “This integration aligns perfectly with that goal, enabling facility owners to offer top-tier, automated and secure services and convenience to their tenants while streamlining their own operations.”

Beginning in October, StorageDefender unit-monitoring technology will also be prepackaged with SteelBlue’s modular, roll-up doors. “We are excited to partner with SteelBlue to introduce this new plug-and-play solution,” Cieri said. “I expect these smart doors will further accelerate the adoption of unit-level protection, as this enhances the customer experience, increases facility profits and improves operational visibility.”

“By preconfiguring our doors with StorageDefender’s smart unit-monitoring capabilities, we are setting a new benchmark for roll-up doors that aligns with the key trends of the industry,” said Rich Saginaw, CEO of SteelBlue.

Launched in 2018 and based in Denton, Texas, StorageDefender is a real estate technology company. Its subscription-based, unit-monitoring service is built on an Internet of Things platform with reporting and notification capabilities.

Founded in 2021, SteelBlue is headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with its manufacturing plant in Georgetown, Kentucky. It offers a variety of doors and hallway systems for the self-storage industry.
