Posted 1/24/24 - The Self-Storage Hawaii unConference, an annual education event for industry professionals, has launched a startup pitch contest as part of this year’s activities, open to people who are working on solutions for the commercial-property segment in general or sustainable solutions in particular. Attendees with qualifying “proptech” or “greentech” ideas must submit their applications through the event website by April 30. Four finalists will be chosen to present during the live gathering, taking place Oct. 21-25 at Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort and Spa in Waikoloa Beach, Hawaii.
All four finalists will be considered winners, however, cash prizes will be awarded based on the results of an onsite attendee poll. For a proposal to qualify for consideration, the initiative must pertain to commercial real estate or the sustainability and decarbonization movement. In addition, the applicant must already have customers and be generating revenue. This doesn’t include free trials or beta testers. Finally, candidates must cover their own travel expenses and stay at the host hotel, though they’ll receive a free event registration. They agree to attend the opening reception and all three group breakfasts.
An advisory board will evaluate the applications and choose the four finalists, who’ll receive six coaching sessions, including two with event organizer Tron Jordheim. In addition, the idea will be shared with other investors and owners of commercial real estate, including self-storage.
Finalists will have the opportunity to revise and update their pitches before presenting them to a live audience on Oct. 24. Event attendees will choose the order of the winners on Oct. 25. In addition to receiving cash, the participants have opportunities to network with those who might be interested in investing in their idea.
