Onity to Expand Self-Storage Security Passport Product With Sensor Integration
April 15, 2024
Onity, a provider of electronic access products and mobile credentials for self-storage and other industries, is integrating sensors into its Passport smart locks that can detect temperature, motion, water, pests and more. The product and its enhancements were unveiled during the recent Inside Self-Storage World Expo in Las Vegas, the industry’s most widely attended conference and tradeshow.
Passport’s long-range wide area network (LoRaWAN) gateway allows self-storage operators to collect and transmit information from the device sensors to Onity’s Passportal cloud-based management system, according to a press release. The data then triggers early detection and alerts for potential security breaches or environmental anomalies such as temperature fluctuations, water leaks or rodent infestations. Real-time motional monitoring is also available.
“We are excited to unveil this innovative solution that redefines the standards of security within the self-storage industry,” said Craig Henricksen, head of product management. “Passport was crafted to accommodate various solutions, functioning seamlessly as a standalone electronic lock with extended longevity for basic storage security requirements while also offering the flexibility to integrate additional features tailored to a facility’s specific needs, ranging from advanced remote monitoring to insightful data analysis. This marks the next phase of Passport’s evolution, demonstrating the effortless integration of robust monitoring sensors into our existing LoRaWAN infrastructure without the need for costly renovations or fees.”
Founded in 1986, Onity also serves the education, hospitality and military industries. It’s part of Carrier Global Corp., a provider of healthy, safe, sustainable and intelligent building and cold-chain solutions.
