Update 3/30/23 – Onity has integrated Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity from technology firm MachineQ with its Passport smart locks. The collaboration will allow self-storage operators to lock, unlock and monitor unit status remotely. It will also give them greater visibility into facility operations, providing real-time and periodic reporting on sensor events, such as open/close status, as well as the ability to identify and respond to issues, according to a press release.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with MachineQ to provide a comprehensive solution for self-storage facility operators,” Sbaihat said. “Our smart locks, combined with MachineQ’s IoT connectivity platform, will provide operators with visibility into their units, enhancing the tenant experience, building customer loyalty and improving overall facility management.”

A subsidiary of Comcast Co., MachineQ specializes in IoT solutions. Its platform can be scaled to other areas of a self-storage facility as well as provide enhanced unit monitoring for leak detection, temperature fluctuations and more, the release stated.

Onity also announced it had signed national reseller agreements with self-storage building supplier Trachte Building Systems and its Trac-Rite door division. The contracts allow the organizations to integrate with the Passport solution as part of their product offerings, according to a press release.

Founded in 1901 and based in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, Trachte is an employee-owned company that manufactures metal prefabricated buildings and components for self-storage, fire-training towers and tactical-training facilities. Its customized self-storage systems include single- and multi-story, portable storage, interior partition and corridor, and canopy boat/RV.
