Man Suspected of Shooting Girlfriend at Self-Storage Facility in Niles, MI

A 24-year-old woman was shot around 3 p.m. Sunday at Aaron’s Mini-Storage in Niles, Mich. Berrien County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for her boyfriend, 28-year-old Michael Jerome Exom III, on charges of assault with the intent to murder and felony firearms. Exom fled the self-storage property at 2601 N. 5th St. in a light-blue, four-door, 2004 Buick Park Avenue, according to investigators.

Man Suspected of Shooting Girlfriend at Self-Storage Facility in Niles, MI

A 24-year-old woman was shot around 3 p.m. Sunday at Aaron’s Mini-Storage in Niles, Mich. Berrien County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for her boyfriend, 28-year-old Michael Jerome Exom III, on charges of assault with the intent to murder and felony firearms. Exom fled the self-storage property at 2601 N. 5th St. in a light-blue, four-door, 2004 Buick Park Avenue, according to investigators.

Police believe Exom and the victim had an argument at the rear of the storage property before the suspect shot her with a handgun, according to the source. “She managed to get out of her vehicle and walk all the way around here, where she was found lying on the side of the road by a passerby, who called 911,” Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey told the source.

The victim underwent surgery at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind., where she was listed in critical condition but expected to live. Investigators have not released her identity.

Police consider Exom armed and dangerous. His vehicle may have a Michigan license plate of DCP-0878. Anyone with information about the incident or the suspect’s whereabouts are encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 269.983.7141.
