Self-Storage Technology Firm OpenTech Announces Compliance With European Data-Protection Rules
May 15, 2023
OpenTech Alliance Inc., a Phoenix-based provider of kiosks, call-center services and other technology for the self-storage industry, has implemented a companywide initiative to comply with General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR), a set of European standards that govern how businesses gather, store and use personal data from customers, staff, suppliers and the public. The move coincides with the opening of OpenTech’s London office, announced last week.
As part of the initiative, OpenTech has updated its access-control system, Insomniac CIA (Centralized Intelligence Access), to ensure it meets the GDPR guidelines for:
Providing clear and concise privacy notices to customers
Obtaining explicit consent for the collection and use of personal data
Implementing appropriate measures to protect personal data
Giving customers the ability to access, modify or delete their personal data
Established in 2018, the GDPR standards are more stringent than U.S. consumer compliance guidelines, OpenTech officials said in a press release.
“Data protection is at the forefront of OpenTech’s priorities. We are committed to providing the highest level of data protection and privacy to our customers,” said CEO Robert Chiti. “GDPR was an important step to ensure our customers can trust our access-control system to protect their personal data and pass that same confidence along to their storage customers. OpenTech is excited to offer its customers this added level of protection and is confident its GDPR-compliant access-control system will continue to provide reliable and secure access control to self-storage facilities across Europe.”
OpenTech specializes in smart-connected technology solutions. Its products and services include the Insomniac line of kiosks, call-center solutions and access-control systems. It also operates the storage-auction website StorageTreasures.com.
