SmartStop Self Storage REIT Inc., a self-managed real estate investment trust, is sponsoring the plane for Flight for Hope, a round-the-world journey by Callum Wallace to raise awareness and funds for the nonprofit Home Suite Hope and other charities. An advisor at real estate firm Engel & Völkers Oakville, Wallace is the fourth Canadian to attempt the challenge, according to a press release.

Wallace took off from Burlington Executive Airport in Burlington, Ontario, Canada, in a single-engine aircraft yesterday afternoon. He’s piloting a modified V35B Beechcraft Bonanza, equipped to fly up to 18 hours at a time. Destinations include Australia, Egypt, England, France, Greece, Greenland, India, Italy, Quebec, Scotland, Spain, Wales and other countries. The journey will culminate in Burlington on Oct. 14, the release stated.

Home Suite Hope supports low-income, single-parent families by offering housing, support and employment opportunities. “Home Suite Hope offers single-parent families the opportunity for a second chance and to get back on their feet,” Wallace said. “I’m incredibly grateful to be able to use my passion for flying to fundraise and give back to the community. The proceeds from this event will go toward purchasing multi-unit buildings to help more families.”

“We are proud to embark on this incredible ‘Flight for Hope’ alongside Callum and the inspiring organization, Home Suite Hope,” said SmartStop CEO H. Michael Schwartz. “This flight symbolizes our collective determination to help single-parent families overcome homelessness, empowering them with the tools and resources needed for financial independence and long-term stability, bringing hope, support, and lasting change to the individuals and communities we serve.”

SmartStop has an owned or managed portfolio of 192 facilities in 22 U.S. states and Canada, comprising 15.3 million rentable square feet in 135,000 units. The company and its affiliates own or manage 33 self-storage properties in Canada, totaling 3 million rentable square feet.
