Guardian Self Storage in Foxborough, MA, Serves as Tailgating Site for New England Patriots Fans
October 7, 2022
Guardian Self Storage of Foxborough, Massachusetts, has become a central hub for tailgating before New England Patriots football games. The facility at 106 Washington St. is just a few blocks from where the team plays at Gillette Stadium, according to the source.
Many of these fans rent units at the property and use them to show off their Patriots memorabilia while sharing meals before the eight Sunday home games. Prior to the Oct. 2 match, more than 20 of these spaces were open and being used for the gathering. In addition, grills, games and picnic tables were set up in the drive aisles.
The get-togethers are the brainchild of Andy MacIntyre, 59, co-owner of a family business that makes engineered plastics. While in a parking lot near the stadium in 2004, he noticed the self-storage facility next door. Before the following football season, he and his friends rented a 10-by-15 unit at the property and then added a TV and furniture to the space. Soon, others began renting units to create gameday areas.
Though Massachusetts law states people can’t live in a storage unit, there are no rules against entertaining in them, the source reported.
Guardian operates another self-storage facility in Franklin, Massachusetts, and one each in Englewood and Fort Meyers, Florida.
