DSV Panalpina A/S, a Danish transport and logistics company, has entered the self-storage industry with the opening of Smarter Storage in Copenhagen, Denmark. The automated, multi-story facility at Blushøjvej 9, 2450 København is accessible via a mobile app, while rentals and payments are completed online via website. It offers approximately 60,000 square feet of storage in 700 units.
“We have extensive warehouse know-how and believe that we can add value to the self-storage market by introducing an innovative, digital solution that makes self-storage easily accessible and convenient for consumers and small businesses,” said Brian Winther Almind, executive vice president of group property.
The facility will be operated and marketed separately from the company’s other business-to-business services, according to the source. DSV plans to build a second self-storage location in the city and branch out to other countries where it already offers transport and logistics services, according to the source.
“User convenience has been high on our priority list during the design phase of our Smarter Storage concept. The facility will be equipped with state-of-the-art electronic solutions for ease of use,” Almind said.
Founded in 1976 by nine independent Danish haulers, DSV provides global transport services by air, land and sea. It’s headquartered in Hedehusene, Denmark, with offices in more than 80 countries.
