A new state-of-the-art self storage facility will open in Bermuda in April 2010. Island Self Storage Ltd., part of the Mill Reach Properties site in Pembroke Parish, will have 297 climate-controlled units and 20 wine-storage units. It is the brainchild of entrepreneur Don Mackenzie, chairman of New Venture Holdings Ltd., and business consultant Glen Smith, president of Island Solutions (Bermuda) Ltd.

The storage facility is part of a large warehouse being built on the site of a former car-storage business. Mackenzie said his market research shows a need for the service from local residents and businesses as well as visitors from overseas.

Smith, who has worked with MacKenzie for many years and has expertise in the area of business building and logistics, is charged with developing and designing the new project. Drew Mulderig is responsible for the information-technology side. The facility is being built by Correia Construction Company Ltd., with humidity-control solutions to be installed by Air Care Ltd. Marketing will be handled by Aardvark Communications Ltd.
