Self-Storage Companies to Host Hawaii ‘unConference’ in October

Tron Jordheim, owner of Jordheim Consulting and Self Storage Strategies, and The Storage Group (TSG), a digital-marketing and software provider, will host the Self Storage Hawaii unConference, Oct. 18-24, at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa on the Big Island of Hawaii. Registration is limited to 100 participants, according to the conference website.

The event will offer interactive education sessions with industry consultants, experts and disruptors. Session topics will include self-storage acquisitions, development and facility operation. A panel of representatives from the industry’s real estate investment trusts will also provide insight. Additional activities include a cocktail reception, a snorkel cruise and golf.

Attendees can also participate in service projects to support industry-adjacent nonprofits Kure It Cancer Research and Science Camps of America. The unConference was co-launched in 2009 by Kure It Founder Barry Hoeven. Industry professional Michael Richards operates the summer science camp for high school-aged kids on the Big Island.

The unConference is named as such because it features a less structured format intended to leave time for lots of networking, discussion-building and general rejuvenation. “It’s about bringing together an intimate group of people in the self-storage industry to connect on a deeper level than what you’d typically see at the larger conferences and build a foundation for lasting business relationships between self-storage owners, operators, managers and service providers,” Jordheim said. “Now seemed like the right time to bring back the unConference to the industry. Through my consulting work, I’ve seen a large uptick in self-storage owners looking for solutions in this increasingly competitive market, and [they] are seeking the right connections to make it happen.”

The event brings together independent owners and service providers in a small setting to tackle industry challenges, according to TSG CEO and partner Steve Lucas. “When I heard of Tron’s latest endeavor for the unConference, we took action and expressed our interest to support and promote this conference,” he said. “As a service provider, we enjoy connecting with attendees at a level that surpasses casual booth talk, and actually understanding the deep pain points of owners and operators to align our business strategies and create solutions where there were none before.”

Self Storage Strategies is a joint venture between Jordheim and Store Here Self Storage, a facility operator and third-party management firm. It provides consulting services, market studies, feasibility reports and operational assistance to self-storage owners worldwide. Jordheim’s other business offers management consulting to businesses from all verticals.

TSG’s services include website development, search engine optimization, pay-per-click advertising, reputation management, software development and more. It introduced the online rental platform ClickandStor in 2011.
