Update 8/23/19 – The Jenkins Organization has completed construction on its Northgate self-storage project in Austin. The finished structure is larger than initially reported, comprising 129,000 square feet. The facility includes three stories and a basement, along with a 1,200-square-foot office, interior-loading area and parking. The exterior features masonry, metal paneling and wood veneer, according to a press release from ARCO/Murray, which designed the facility and served as general contractor.

5/24/19 – The Jenkins Organization has started construction on Bergstrom Storage in Southeast Austin. The facility at 530 S. Highway 183 is slated to be complete in March, according to a press release.

“The Austin-Metro area is underserved in large storage spaces to serve the needs of boat and RV owners, and personal and commercial storage,” said Ricky Jenkins, president. “There are many small businesses that need storage and warehouse space in the 400- to 1,000-square-foot range. We will fill these voids.”

The company has five new developments and two facility expansions underway.

10/5/18 – The Jenkins Organization continues to expand its self-storage footprint in the Austin market. The company is adding about 30,000 square feet of climate-controlled and traditional space to Leander Storage north of the city. The project launched last month and is expected to be complete in March, according to a press release.

9/17/18 – The Jenkins Organization has opened Manchaca Storage in South Austin, which comprises 93,225 square feet in 795 climate-controlled and traditional units. The company also acquired land for its planned Bergstrom project in the southeast of the city and its Northgate project in the north. The new properties will comprise a combined 365,000 square feet, according to press releases.

Bergstrom Storage on S. Highway 183 will comprise 238,000 square feet in 1,090 units. It’ll include spaces with humidity and temperature control, boat/RV storage, gated access and electronic security. Expected to open in November 2019, the site will have a resident manager, the release stated.

Northgate Storage on Research Boulevard will comprise 127,000 gross square feet and offer 816 units. It also will include climate-controlled space as well as an internal loading area, 6-foot wide corridors, large elevators, gated access and electronic security. It’s expected to be complete in May.

“We are excited about this infill location, and one of the few locations with high visibility from Highway 183 between Interstate 35 and Mopac,” DeJean said. “We feel it will service a wide range of customers including Burnet Road, The Domain, Arboretum and beyond.”

The company’s 2018 growth plan now includes seven development projects, three acquisitions and five facility expansions.

8/22/18 – The Jenkins Organization has closed on another land purchase in Austin. The company intends to build a 238,000-square-foot self-storage facility in the southeast area of the city. Bergstrom Storage will offer 1,090 units including climate-controlled and boat/RV storage. Scheduled to open in November 2019, it’ll feature electronic security, gated access and a resident manager, according to a press release.

“We look forward to becoming the premiere, class-A storage facility for Central and East Austin, providing our customers with our most diverse product range to date,” said Robb DeJean, director of development.

7/24/18 – The Jenkins Organization is kicking off construction on two more of its Austin-area projects. Northgate Self Storage broke ground this month, while Oak Hill Self Storage will begin construction in August. They’re expected to be complete in June and July 2019, respectively. Together they’ll add 252,000 square feet to the company’s portfolio, according to a press release from ARCO/Murray Design Build, which is serving as general contractor.

Northgate will comprise 128,000 square feet of climate-controlled storage, including a 1,500-square-foot management office. The four-story Oak Hill facility will include a 1,500-square-foot office and a 1,250-square-foot apartment for the resident manager.

Based in Dallas, ARCO/Murray offers design, build and general-contractor services nationwide. It’s been in business for more than 25 years.

5/27/18 – The Jenkins Organization Inc., a Houston-based developer and operator of 45 self-storage facilities in five states, has opened two new properties in Austin, Texas. ATX Storage at 6901 North Interstate 35 and Lakeline Storage at 11000 Lakeline Blvd. will celebrate their grand openings on Saturday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to a press release.

The company also has six new developments and two expansion projects underway, all in Texas. All are slated to open in the next year. The projects total more than 1.2 million square feet of storage space and represent a $125 million investment, the release stated.

The new developments are:

  • Manchaca Storage, 9507 Manchaca Road, Austin

  • Oak Hill Storage, 7919 W. Highway 71, Austin

  • Bergstrom Storage, 600 S. Highway 183, Austin

  • Northgate Storage, 8875 Research Blvd., Austin

  • Bee Cave Storage, 15106 W. State 71, Bee Cave

  • Darden Hill Storage, FM 1826, Driftwood

The facility expansions are at West Highway 29 Storage at 7560 W. Highway 29 in Georgetown, and Leander Storage at 11520 Hero Way W. in Leander.

“While there is a tremendous amount of self-storage development throughout Texas, we have worked hard to locate sites with high barriers to entry and excellent demographics,” said Ricky Jenkins, president.

Formed in 1989, The Jenkins Organization currently has an ownership and management portfolio comprising more than 3.5 million square feet of storage space in Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
