Officials in Prince George’s County, Maryland, have imposed restrictions on future self-storage development. The council unanimously passed a bill on Tuesday that’ll limit new projects to the county’s industrial zones, according to the source.

Council members discussed the new law for several months before voting. Some commercial real estate owners also supported the decision.

“I just wanted to thank the council and council members for the consideration through the project, through the drafting of this bill and recognizing where certain individuals were in the process,” said Trey Burke, who represented a local self-storage company.

Existing storage facilities or projects that have already been approved won’t be affected.
