Self-Storage REIT Public Storage Hires Senior Vice President of Insurance

Public Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust and management company, has hired Marshann Varley as senior vice president of insurance. The company also owns PS Alani Insurance Co. Inc. and the Orange Door Storage Insurance Program. Varley will replace Capri Haga, who served in the position since 2006.

Varley was formerly employed with Aon, an American-British firm offering financial risk-mitigation products, including insurance, pension administration and health-insurance plans. As managing director and resident sales director, she worked with the company’s clients in Southern California and Las Vegas. Prior to that, she spent 15 years as chief retention officer and producer-unit leader for for Marsh, an insurance broker and risk advisor.

Varley is also a founding member of Chief, a private network focused on connecting and supporting women leaders across the United States. The organization was recognized as one of “Fast Company” magazine’s “Most Innovative Companies” of 2021. Chief membership includes more than 5,000 influential senior leaders representing 2,500 companies.

“A big thank you to Capri Haga, who is retiring on April 1 after 16 years at Public Storage and has grown the Orange Door Insurance program to more than 1.1 million customers,” Varley commented. “I am looking forward to this next chapter in my career, which draws upon my roles in underwriting, brokerage, client management, captives, risk management and sales.”

Based in Glendale, California, Public Storage has interests in 2,678 self-storage facilities in 39 states, with approximately 186 million net rentable square feet. It holds a 35 percent interest in Shurgard Self Storage SA, which has 247 facilities in seven European countries, with approximately 13 million net rentable square feet.
