Eau Claire, WI, Self-Storage Facility Gets New Mural as Part of ColorBlock Community Program

The walls at 1st Avenue Mini Storage in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, are being transformed by multiple works of art this month as part of ColorBlock, an annual community program that selects artists to paint murals on buildings. The self-storage facility at 1128 1st Ave., along with the Banbury Place business center, will be home to 20 murals chosen from more than 90 submissions, according to the source.

One of the participating artists, Madison Hayes, is displaying her art publicly for the first time. Her mural depicts fun shapes in a retro style, the source reported. “I’m kind of excited to be able to make my mark on the city and be able to drive by and see it every day, and be like, ‘Hey that’s mine,’” Hayes said. “And with it being a popular bike path and busy street, too, it’s kind of cool to have a lot of people be able to view my art, which isn’t something that happens every day.”

The outdoor exhibition will be free and accessible to the public year-round, with the paintings included as part of the municipality’s citywide mural tour, according to the source.

This isn’t the first time 1st Avenue Mini has participated in local public-art program. Last year, the self-storage facility was the site of a mural organized by the Public Painting Project. For that endeavor, 20 artists collaborated on the theme “Revelry” to celebrate community, music and nature.

1st Avenue Mini is locally owned and operated. It offers drive-up units.
