Inside Self-Storage (ISS) has released a new episode in its “Sounds of Storage” podcast series that explores the impact of climate change and disastrous weather events on self-storage businesses, particularly as it relates to risk management and insurance. The seven-minute interview with Kay Schaefer, self-storage program underwriter for Deans & Homer, provides insight on the increase in climate-related dangers and how facility operators should respond. She offers advice on how to protect property, staff, tenants and stored goods.

Schaefer has specialized in self-storage insurance for the last 25 years, 15 of which have been with Deans & Homer. In her current role, she tailors a comprehensive insurance policy for storage-business owners to help them protect their assets from liability. She also assists facility operators with administration of the company’s tenant-insurance and tenant-protection products.

Established in 1856, Deans & Homer offers a suite of products including commercial and renter’s insurance. Its specialized programs for self-storage owners include customers goods legal liability and sale and disposal liability coverage.
