Spokane Valley, WA, Self-Storage Operator Seeks Owner of Abandoned Dog Ashes
June 11, 2019
Randy Brown, an operator of Valley Self Storage in Spokane Valley, Wash., has been seeking the owner of dog cremains he found in the facility’s business archives two years ago. After fruitlessly attempting to reach the person listed as the owner via several methods, he recently appealed to “Help Me Hayley,” a spot produced by anchor/reporter Hayley Guenther of local TV station KHQ. Guenther aims to help community members with their unsolved problems.
Brown had been organizing items in the storage facility’s archive when he discovered a box labeled “Abby,” including a photo of the dog, her collar and tags, and her remains. The owner’s name, Judie Lambert, is written on the underside of the box, along with the words “Forever in My Heart” and Abby’s dates of life: Feb. 27, 2003, to Oct. 1, 2012. “Wrapped in a rug came Abby. It's almost as if she wanted someone to find her,” Brown told the source.
Brown called the phone numbers listed on Abby’s tags, which were disconnected. He also tried social media and contacted the cremation company, neither of which yielded any results. Now he hopes media exposure will help. “I feel like we need to find her home, if we can,” he said. “We all kind of come to love Abby. She's like our mascot.”
“Help Me Hayley” aired a spot about Brown’s story and printed it on the TV station’s website and Facebook page. Anyone one with information is invited to e-mail [email protected].
