Stor-it to Add Solar Farm to Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, Self-Storage Facility

Stor-it, which operates a self-storage facility in the Brown Hill suburb of Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, and is actively expanding, is adding an extensive solar farm to its property at 211 Melbourne Road. The project will comprise 4.8 kilometers of solar panels, making this one of the largest privately owned solar installations in the providence, according to the source. iPlanning Services and JLP Consulting Engineers will begin construction in July, and the system is expected to be operational by early 2023.

The Stor-it solar panels will generate 1062kw of power, saving 936 tons of CO2 emissions annually, which is the equivalent of planting 43,174 trees each year, a source reported. The facility will also store and purify 72,000 liters of stormwater to be used for used for landscaping other onsite uses.

The operator is also developing a second location in the city, in the suburb of Delacombe, expected to open in August 2022. Situated at 2 Icon Drive in the hub of the western growth corridor, the 700-unit Stor-it Ballarat West will be the city’s first carbon-neutral self-storage facility. It’ll use the same type of stormwater-recycling system as implemented at Brown Hill, plus a hydroelectricity system.

In addition, Stor-it will be purchasing carbon-emission credits for its customers to account for their drives to either location. The company believes it’s the first in the country to help customers in their mission to obtain zero emissions for their own households.

Stor-it offers traditional storage units as well as vehicle and wine storage. The company plans to expand with an additional 15 facilities in New South Wales, 17 facilities in Queensland and eight in Victoria.
