Extra Space Storage Releases Infographic About Solar Sustainability Initiatives

Self-storage real estate investment trust Extra Space Storage has created an infographic that illustrates the affect of the companys solar sustainability efforts on the environment.

Self-storage real estate investment trust Extra Space Storage has created an infographic that illustrates the affect of the companys solar sustainability efforts on the environment. The infographic includes the environmental impact these efforts will have in 2011, the projected impact continuing efforts will have in the future, and the associated tax credits and reduced energy costs. This summer Extra Space joined as a partner of the Environmental Protection Agencys Energy Star program, with a goal of improving energy efficiency and fighting climate change through a strategic, corporate energy-management program. The company is also installing solar panels on 21 of its New Jersey facilities as part of a nationwide agreement with 1st Light Energy, a company that specializes in commercial and residential solar-energy systems.

  • Other sustainability campaigns launched by Extra Space include:

  • Retrofitting facilities with energy-efficient lighting systems and motion sensors

  • Moving paper-intensive processes to electronic documentation

  • Regulating thermostat controls and temperatures for offices and properties

  • Educating and encouraging employees and customers to do their part

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Extra Space is a real estate investment trust that owns or operates 860 self-storage properties in 34 states and Washington, D.C. The company's properties comprise approximately 570,000 units and more than 62 million square feet of rentable storage space.
