7 Firefighters Injured While Battling Augusta, GA, Self-Storage Fire

Seven firefighters were injured on Monday morning as they battled a blaze at Simply Self Storage in Augusta, Georgia. About 50 of the 76 storage units on the south end of the property at 2134 Gordon Highway were also damaged, according to a source.

An off-duty firefighter spotted smoke coming from the site at 9:45 a.m. After alerting the facility manager, he called 911. Fire crews had the conflagration under control by 11:30 a.m.

Three of the firefighters were evaluated and treated at the scene. The others were taken to a local hospital with injuries including smoke inhalation, exhaustion and muscle strains.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Founded in 2003, Simply Self Storage operates more than 100 facilities nationwide.
