Update 1/3/24 – Employees of Extra Space Storage once again spearheaded a virtual holiday food drive in December, generating more than $40,000 in donations for Feeding America. The company then matched the contributions. It was the third year Extra Space staff hosted the event. More than $100,000 was raised in 2021 and 2022, according to a press release.

“The generosity from the entire Extra Space team is incredible, and I am amazed at their ability to rally together to make this donation possible,” said Grace Houser, social-impact project lead for Extra Space. “This fundraiser serves as an additional avenue for us to live out our mission statement of helping people reach a better tomorrow. Together, we were able to give back to the communities in which we operate in and help our neighbors in need this holiday season.”

“Feeding America appreciates the generous support from Extra Space Storage and its employees for their commitment to fighting hunger,” said Lauren Biedron, senior vice president of corporate partnerships for Feeding America. “This donation will help provide at least 400,000 meals to people facing hunger in the U.S.”

1/3/23 – Employees of Extra Space Storage Inc., a self-storage real estate investment trust and management company, recently generated more than $51,000 in donations for hunger-relief organization Feeding America through a virtual holiday food drive. The company then matched the contributions, according to a press release.

“Feeding America appreciates the generous support from Extra Space Storage and its employees for their commitment to fighting hunger,” said Teresa Gruber, corporate employee-engagement director for Feeding America. “This donation will help provide at least 510,000 meals to people facing hunger in the U.S.”

Extra Space held its first virtual food drive in 2021, raising more than $50,000 for Feeding America. In prior years, the corporate team at its Salt Lake City headquarters held traditional food drives by collecting canned goods and monetary donations for the Utah Food Bank. The event was moved to a virtual platform in 2021 to extend its reach across the 41 states where the company operates, the release stated.

“I am continually impressed with the Extra Space team for showing up to support our neighbors in need and make this donation possible,” said Whitney Harper, senior vice president of people at Extra Space Storage. “Everyone should have access to nutritious food, which is why we partnered with Feeding America to host our second holiday food drive. Together, we were able to give back to the 100-plus communities Extra Space operates in and help those in need to a better tomorrow.”

Feeding America works with a nationwide network of 200 food banks and 60,000 partner agencies, food pantries and meal programs. It helps to provide 5.2 billion meals annually.

Extra Space operates 2,327 self-storage stores in 41 states and Washington, D.C. The company’s properties comprise approximately 1.6 million units and 175.1 million square feet of rentable space.
