Canada Self-Storage Operator Cold Lake Mini Storage Hosts ‘Santas Anonymous’

Self-storage operator Cold Lake Mini Storage in Cold Lake, Alberta, Canada, is serving as the headquarters of Santas Anonymous, a charity initiative of the Grand Centre Lions Club that provides Christmas gifts to children in need. The group collects and buys toys for families who are unable to afford presents for their kids, according to the source. It has served the community for 29 years.

For the past two years, the self-storage facility provided space for the charity, which wound up serving 186 families, giving presents to 457 children. Volunteers use an empty unit to store and wrap gifts.

"If a family isn't finding that they can make it through Christmas, or they haven't got enough to get something for their children at Christmastime, they come and apply," said Butch Bouchard, a Lions Club member and volunteer. "We will do our best to provide them with something that's going to be meaningful to the family for Christmas and make their life a lot happier."

Families can apply to receive gifts through Dec. 13 by visiting the self-storage facility at 63218 Highway 28. Santas Anonymous is open to Cold Lake residents as well as families living in the nearby communities of Cherry Grove, Cold Lake First Nations, Elizabeth Métis Settlement and Riverhurst, the source reported.

Those wishing to donate unwrapped toys may do so at select businesses throughout the city, including Calendar Club and Lakeland Credit Union.
