Self-Storage Operator StorageMart Named a Top 125 Training Company

StorageMart, which operates more than 200 self-storage properties across Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, was named to the “Training Top 125” list by “Training” magazine, a business publication for learning and development and human resources professionals. Companies are ranked according to their excellence in employer-sponsored training and development programs, according to a press release.

The rankings will be unveiled during a black-tie awards gala at the Training 2020 Conference & Expo, Feb. 24-26, in Orlando, Fla. StorageMart is the first self-storage company to be named to the list, a release stated.

“This is an enormous honor for StorageMart,” said Garrett Harrington, the company’s managing director of communications and training. “None of it would have been possible without the effort put forth from every department of the company and the talented group in our training department. The buy-in and collaboration between departments to innovate and achieve new initiatives truly sets us apart.”

Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the “Training Top 125” is based on benchmarking statistics such as total training budget, percentage of payroll, number of training hours per employee program, detailed formal programs, learning goals and business-outcomes measurement. The ranking is determined by assessing a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including financial investment in employee development, the scope of development programs, how closely such development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives, and the results they achieve.

“StorageMart’s training department upped its game with innovative content creation and delivery methods that engaged learners and sparked behavior change, while helping to move the needle on key corporate initiatives,” said Lorri Freifeld, the magazine’s editor-in-chief. “The collaboration between the training department and senior leadership as detailed in the Training Top 125 application was particularly impressive.”

“Training” has been a resource for learning and development for more than 50 years. It’s produced by Lakewood Media Group, which also hosts several annual conferences.

Founded in 1999 and based in Columbia, Mo., StorageMart is privately owned and operated by the Burnam Family, which has been in the storage industry for three generations. Its portfolio consists of more than 16 million square feet of storage. It serves more than 75,000 self-storage customers, and operates in Chinese, English, Punjabi, Quebecois French and Spanish.
