Business has been good for self-storage, and the industry is reaching out to share its good fortune. Storage companies nationwide are getting increasingly involved in community and charitable programs, whether it be collecting non-perishable food items during the holidays, providing cash contributions to local fundraisers, or embarking on more creative approaches to goodwill. Inside Self-Storage (ISS), a long-time provider of industry resources and education, aims to recognize and bolster their efforts.

This year, ISS will present four Humanitarian Service Awards to self-storage companies or professionals volunteering time, expertise, resources or funds to assist those in need. Each winner will receive a grant of $2,000, made payable to the nonprofit organization, project, event or program being supported. Individuals may nominate themselves, their own companies or other eligible candidates or companies. All nominees must be directly connected to the self-storage industry.

Applications will be accepted immediately through Nov. 1, 2008. Winners will be notified in writing by Dec. 15, 2008, and formally recognized at the Inside Self-Storage Expo in Las Vegas, Jan. 26-29, 2009.

Detailed program guidelines and an application form can be found at www.insideselfstorage.com/humanitarian_award.
