Texas Self Storage Association Announces Board Changes, Annual Shriners Hospital Donation

The Texas Self Storage Association (TSSA) has announced some accolades and changes around its board of directors as well as the 2020 results of its annual fundraising campaign for Shriners Hospitals for Children in Galveston, Texas.

In regard to its board, TSSA recognized two members for exceptional leadership and service and welcomed a new participant. Matt Janes, director of Rosewood Property Co., was honored for his service as president for the 2019-20 term. Having served the association for five years, he now sits on the executive committee as immediate-past president. Davis Deadman, a principal of Advantage Self Storage, received accolades for a three-year term that ended last year. Raheem Amer, senior vice president of operations for Devon Self Storage, joined as a new member. He has more than six years of industry experience, including three working for self-storage real estate investment trust Extra Space Storage Inc., where he supervised facilities in Colorado, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.

Now in its 20th year of raising donations for Shriners, TSSA donated $151,458 in 2020, bringing its total to date to more than $1.75 million. In the past, it generated funds by hosting silent and live auctions and a charity poker tournament at its annual fall conference. A significant portion comes from individual TSSA members. The association’s charitable efforts for this year have begun and will be held online.

Shriners includes 22 hospitals in Canada, Mexico and the United States, providing advanced care for children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate.

Established in 1986, the TSSA is dedicated to enhancing the quality of the self-storage industry in Texas. It provides opportunities for members to increase their knowledge of the business through education, research, discussion and exchange of information.
