The Kyle, Texas, City Council passed an ordinance amendment this week that would restrict self-storage development. To be approved, new projects must be at least two miles from an existing facility, according to the source.
During the Feb. 15 meeting, the council also discussed ordinance changes for new gas stations and car washes. Members were split on the decision, which led them to table it until their next meeting. Restrictions on these services will allow the city to better use available land moving forward, according to city planner Will Atkinson.
Kyle currently has six self-storage facilities, 26 gas stations and nine car washes. Based on its population, it only needs 2.57 self-storage facilities, 15.27 gas stations and 2.58 car washes, city documents show.
