Maryland Gov. Wes Moore signed Senate Bill 633 (SB 633) on May 9, which relates to the state’s self-storage lien-sale advertising and related requirements for industry rental agreements. The law takes effect on June 1, according to a May 20 email newsletter from the national Self Storage Association (SSA) to its members.

SB 633 eliminates the need to gain tenant consent via the rental agreement prior to advertising lien sales via a method other than a newspaper. Self-storage operators can now publish information about these events in any medium that is most appropriate for the individual business including print or online newspapers and email.

The SSA represents more than 22,000 U.S. and international member-affiliated self-storage facilities, according to its website. It’s allied with several state and international self-storage associations and has about 6,000 members.
