After the 9/11 tragedy, greater self-storage perimeter protection became a huge concern. AutoGate Inc. responded to the call with the Shield Vertical Pivot Lift Crash Barrier Gate. The new system obtained a K8 rating by the Department of State in March as a result of its demonstrated compliance with the Standards for Anti-Ram Barriers. The shield stopped a 15,000-pound vehicle traveling 40 mph, totally disabling the vehicle. Applications for the shield include government and military bases, airports, water-treatment facilities and self-storage.
