The Pack Rats are coming!

We recently posted a press release to the ISS website regarding a new mobile-storage contender entering the Phoenix market: 1-800-PACK-RAT. The company plans to open at least four facilities in Arizona in the next few years; and based on my observations, it isn't messing around. While out doing some pre-Halloween scavenging with my husband this past weekend, we drove by this nifty marketing ...

Bringing Women and Minorities Into the Construction Fold

It's no revelation, just a simple fact: The health of our industry is intimately tied to that of the construction field. When materials and labor are hard to come by, self-storage also suffers. Right now, construction is experiencing a woeful shortage of skilled workers. If you look at the press releases posted to the RSS feed this week, you'll see what some organizations are doing to attract ...

Slap-It-Up World of Storage?

Today's Yahoo! news search for self-storage upturned a press release about Flex Storage Systems in Topeka, Kan. (See our Hot News Feed.) This gorgeous facility was actually highlighted in the May 2005 issue of Inside Self-Storage for a one-of-a-kind art display on exhibit within its walls. Now it has been given a design award by Architectural Lighting magazine, and it certainly deserves it. Check ...

Way to go, Jersey!

I'm an East Coast girl, so I relish any opportunity to give a shout out to storage operators on the Atlantic. Today, kudos goes out to the New Jersey Self Storage Association and facility owners in that state for their valiant fight against The Man. New Jersey recently raised its sales tax from 6 percent to 7 percent. Not great, but not devastating, right? No, the real bummer is the pending ...
