Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly signed House Bill 2545 (HB 2545) into law on April 15, which modifies the state’s self-storage legislation. HB 2545 establishes a process for disposing of property left behind after a self-storage tenant vacates their unit and amends the way in which facility rental agreements can be delivered to customers. It takes effect on July 1, according to an April 29 email newsletter from the national Self Storage Association (SSA) to its members.

The new law addresses customers whose rental agreements were terminated or not renewed for a reason other than non-payment. In addition, rental agreements can now be sent and signed electronically.

The SSA represents more than 22,000 U.S. and international member-affiliated self-storage facilities, according to its website. It’s allied with several state and international self-storage associations and has about 6,000 members.
