Nexlar Launches Integrated Access-Control System for Self-Storage Facilities

Nexlar, a Houston-based company that provides security systems for commercial applications, has developed an access-control system for self-storage facilities powered by Alfred360 cloud software. The platform integrates gate- and unit-access control, smart cameras, and license-plate recognition with facility-management software functions. The company has also launched a “Free Access Control” program, which provides the system hardware for free, though self-storage businesses must still pay for the cost of installation, licensing and recurring monthly fees, according to a press release.

The platform’s integrated functionality is designed to ensure only authorized individuals are able to access a site or specific units. The license-plate recognition capability can automatically grant or deny vehicle access based on registration within the system, the release stated.

Alfred360 integrates with smart cameras to record footage as well as analyze activity in real time to detect and notify self-storage facility managers and owners of any irregularities. For example, if a gate remains open beyond a set time due to a malfunction, the system can automatically send an alert. Preset notifications for gate maintenance can also be specified, according to the release.

The system's interface was designed with non-technical users in mind for ease of navigation. Leveraging the cloud allows users to access logs, live camera footage and property data in real time, company officials said.

The system also has a kiosk component that allows onsite rentals. The accompanying website allows site visitors to explore unit availability—including sizes and prices—and finalize their purchase. The system can also send payment reminders to tenants.
