RedBox of Hong Kong Introduces Fire-Safe Self-Storage Units

RedBox Storage Ltd., which operates five self-storage facilities in Hong Kong, has introduced a fire-safe storage solution called Fire Box. The self-contained unit is fire-resistant for 30 minutes and can withstand temperatures up to 1,000 degrees Celsius, according to the source.

The units are fitted with a single-leaf, steel-composite door with 30 minutes of fire integrity and insulation. They also have individual temperature sensors, lighting and door-access detection. Data is fed through a separate fire panel from building services for identification and monitoring.

The Fire Box is available in a variety of sizes, from 20 to 160 square feet. It’s certified and approved by regulatory bodies, according to the source.

In August, RedBox became the first company to receive gold-level certification from the Self Storage Association Asia as part of its safety-standards certification program. The designation, valid for three years, was given to two facilities, one in Chai Wen and another in Tuen Mun.

Established in 2007, RedBox also operates locations in Shatin, Tsuen Wan and Yau Tong. InfraRed NF, a Hong Kong-based real estate investment fund operated by a joint venture, acquired a 90 percent stake in the company in 2018.
