OnDemand Storage Launches Valet Service in Boston Area

OnDemand Storage, a startup business specializing in valet self-storage, has launched service in Braintree, Mass., and nearby communities in the Boston area. The company uses an online platform that allows customers to schedule item pickup, maintain a catalog of stored items, and schedule delivery of items to their home.

Similar to other valet-style storage operators, OnDemand offers by-the-bin storage targeted at residents who don’t have adequate home storage. Items are stored in multiple secure warehouses in the Boston area, according to the company website. Under the “Per Item” plan, pricing starts at $5 per month per box or individual piece but is limited to seven items. The company offers three pricing models for customers who require more warehouse space. Those prices range from $99 per month for 50 square feet up to $289 for 200 square feet. The minimum duration of stay is three months. Special pricing plans for students are available.

The largest plan includes four free deliveries of items during a calendar year. Return deliveries require a 48-hour notice in all cases. Returns beyond what may be included in a plan are $25 each, according to the website. Customers can use the company’s MyUnit dashboard to manage their belongings and schedule home delivery.

“Virtually everyone could use a little extra storage space, even if it’s only a temporary need. Of course, there’s a lot of work involved in the traditional option,” CEO Barrett O’Neill said in a press release. “We offer a number of benefits over the standard norm, like eliminating the need to make repeated trips to a storage unit to retrieve items and bringing an entirely new element to the rental process. By incorporating technology into our basic operations, we’ve created a more streamlined branch of the industry and enabled customers to save time, effort and money.”

Unlike many other valet-storage operators, OnDemand doesn’t offer complimentary storage bins. Customers may purchase boxes from the company or use their own. Bins that weigh more than 45 pounds are subject to additional fees.

"On-demand storage has revolutionized the industry, and we’ll continue to expand our offerings to area customers as word of this option spreads and demand grows,” O’Neill said.

Other valet-storage operators serving the Boston area include Cubiq and Fetch Storage.
