Self-Storage of Peterborough, NH, Gets Provisional Permission to Expand

The Peterborough, N.H., Planning Board recently granted provisional approval of an expansion to Self Storage of Peterborough on U.S. Route 202, north of ConVal Regional High School. The storage operator intends to add six buildings comprising 21,600 square feet of space to the property, according to the source. It also plans to add gravel to the roadway that leads into the facility.

The board’s approval is conditional, based on the outcome of a forthcoming report on the effects the development will have on storm-water drainage. The state department of transportation must also confirm the company doesn’t need to update its road-access permit, the source reported.

The new buildings and rooftops will be colored gray with dark-red doors to fit in with the facility’s current color scheme. Some board members were concerned the facility is too visible from the highway during winter months and discussed the possibility of adding landscaping as a visual buffer. Planning chair Ivy Vann noted there are already several evergreen trees present to block the view but recommended “high-bush blueberries” if more foliage is deemed necessary, according to the source.

The self-storage operator was represented during the meeting by Chad Branon, a principal with Fieldstone Land Consultants PLLC, a local engineering, environmental-services and land-surveying company.

Self Storage of Peterborough has served the community since 1986. The company also operates Self Storage of Jaffrey in Jaffrey, N.H.
