Stor-Guard to Unveil Smartlok Security Products for Self-Storage

Stor-Guard LLC, a manufacturer of access-control and security systems for the self-storage industry, is beta testing two Smartlok Solutions products designed to help facility managers monitor unit activity and control overlocking from a personal computer or smartphone. The Smartlok Smart-Latch Series and Smartlok Latch-Defender are set to be released during the summer and will be unveiled during the Inside Self-Storage World Expo in Las Vegas, April 25-28, at the Paris Hotel & Resort, according to a press release.

The Smart-Latch Series offers overlocking functions to prevent unauthorized entry to a unit. It uses a built-in motion detector to sense if entry is attempted from another unit or through the roof. In addition, a built-in shock sensor is designed to detect anyone trying to cut through the door, and a heat detector will notify the manager if the lock temperature exceeds 135 degrees, the release stated. It’s also equipped with a battery-backup function if a facility loses power. Tenants can use their own barrel or standard locks with the system.

Latch-Defender is intended as an added security measure and enables managers to overlock units through a connected device.

“An integral part of Smartlok Solutions are available smartphone apps that give the self-storage owner and manager complete control of the facility’s security,” said John Wollam, president. “In addition, tenants can monitor the status of their units and open the gate with Stor-Guard’s virtual keypad.”

The products will also interface with self-storage software management systems, the release stated. Stor-Guard has been awarded three patents connected to the system, Wollam said.

Based in Seattle, Stor-Guard specializes in the design, manufacturing, installation and service of access-control and security systems for the self-storage industry. The company’s products include access-control and electronic gates, intrusion/perimeter protection and video-surveillance systems.
